Spruce Pine Main Street
Spruce Pine Main Street (SPMS) is comprised of a Board of 15 directors from businesses and local government. The staff consists solely of an Executive Director. All of our members are volunteers who actively support the mission of SPMS and the North Carolina Main Street Organization. The organization is committed to cultural equity and diversity in programming, staffing, and operations.
Spruce Pine Main Street began with a one-time grant of $21,400 from the Mitchell County Commissioners. This grant was matched by the Town of Spruce Pine in the form of salary and benefits of the Executive Director for the first year. Since then, SPMS has been permanently funded through an appropriation in the Town’s annual operating budget.
Each year, SPMS hosts three public festivals in Downtown, either singularly or in partnership with other area non-profits (ie: Spruce Pine Rotary Club, Penland School of Crafts and Toe River Arts Council). Along with these annual events, SPMS chooses projects that will add vibrancy to Downtown.
